Babe Ruth and Baseball

A few days ago I was rummaging through a whole bunch of pictures that have accumulated over the years. I came across a picture that was given to me by my Uncle Jim. Its a picture of Babe Ruth back in 1939, man, thats back there! My Uncle was playing on a farm team for the N.Y. Yankees at the time. It seems that the Babe posed for a lot of pictures with the team members. In this picture he , my uncle, is on the left with the diamond on his left chest. I think he was pretty lucky to have pictures taken with the Babe.
The team was located in West Islip on Long Island, N.Y. I tried to get my uncle to tell me about what went on that day but he doesn't recall to much of it. Can't say that I blame him, after all it was way back in 1939. The pictures were taken with a Brownie Box Camera. That was the top camera and maybe the only camera around. As a matter of fact, I have one of those old cameras in my possession for years now.
Getting back to my Uncle Jim, he was in love with the game of baseball. In those days it really was the great american pastime. Its totally changed today, its all about "money" and endorsements. Anyway, I still enjoy watching the games, even if I know that half of the players are all juiced up on steroids. Its a shame how the sport has changed. Getting back to my uncle, I think he would have made a great player if he hadn't gotten hit in the left eye during one of the practice sessions. The accident caused him to go blind in his left eye and needless to say, it cost him a career. For the past ten years I've been collecting baseball cards as a hobby. I have a lot of fun opening packs of cards and seeing if there are any of them worth saving. Actually, I save all of them that I open. I have slowed up lately because I've gotten into watercolor painting. I may be retired but it still takes up a lot of time doing the things you like. I keep going back and forth to three different paintings that I've started and haven't finished any more yet, but I'm getting there. Well, I better get going or I won't finish any. See you next post.

About six months ago I was looking for something to occupy myself during these hot humid days in Florida. Well, I decided to try Watercolor painting!

I happened to be watching tv one afternoon and was clicking channels,as usual, when I stopped on the PBS channel. There was a program called "Painting with Terry Madden" To make a long story short, thats how I got started in watercolor.

I learned all the basics from that tv show and started painting everything. When I started, I could hardly draw a straight line but I'm getting better as I go along. I'm pretty much at ease now doing watercolor but I know I'll never be a Picasso!

I have a neice named Stephanie Lowe. She is a great sculptor and artist. She is really fantastic at what she does. She is very creative. Needless to say, I use her as my critic. She says I picked it up pretty good for someone who couldn't draw a straight line. She has her studio in California so I have to use e-mail to show her what I've done. It works out pretty good.

I think that what I'm going to do is post my paintings on this blog. What the hell, maybe I can get some good critisism from you. As I post them I will try to explain why I painted that particular picture and how I came to paint it.

As you know from my first post that I am a World War Two buff so needless to say I will probably do a lot about the war and the military. I have a friend whose brother was killed in Vietnam. He was in my garage when I was painting this picture that I have posted here and wanted me to make one for him. He says it will remind him of his brother whenever he looks at it. Well, I painted one for him. You are all welcome to comment on it, good or bad.

You all have a great day and I'll see you next post!

Telling a little about myself

Hi All,
As you can see by my photo, I'm getting up in years. I was 71 a few days ago but I feel great. I've been retired for 10 years now and loving it. I'm just starting to get involved in doing some affliate marketing. Don't know what the hell I'm doin but it looks like fun. I fool around a little with the stock market, only pennies mind you but I like that also. I am a World War 2 buff. I've read almost every book about the war. I wasn't there myself but I am a veteran of the Korean era.
I spent seven years in the Air Force and left with an Honorable Discharge. It was a great experience for me. I hadn't been out of Brooklyn, N.Y. before I enlisted. Well, I guess I raved about myself enough so I will end it here. Thanks for listening!
